I'll be in New Orleans in early October for Rebuilding Together's 8th Annual Building a Healthy Neighborhood where we will rebuild and revitalize Historic St. Roch. Over three days, we'll provide critical repairs on more than 8 homes, renovate a local tool lending library which provides residents with access to free tools and equipment, and host a community resource fair to provide an opportunity for fellow nonprofits to connect with this neighborhood.
St. Roch is a historic New Orleans neighborhood with over 65% of households considered low-income, earning less than $15,000 a year. Many families have lived in the community for generations but are at-risk of displacement due to increasing property values coupled with limited resources to improve family homes. I'm excited to be a part of such a great event in a city that I love!
A week after Building a Healthy Neighborhood wraps- I'm going to "Bike the Big Easy" and take a 25 mile bike ride around New Orleans in support of Rebuilding Together's work in New Orleans and around the United States.
Will you join me? Please consider making a gift of $10, $25, $50, $100 – or an amount of your choosing – to help our neighbors in need. No donation is too small and any amount is greatly appreciated!
Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Race2Rebuild’s national team of volunteer athletes raised critical private funds and provided hands-on home building to support long-term disaster recovery projects. As additional disasters took place around the country, Race2Rebuild met the need by supporting projects in Detroit, Houston, New Orleans and many other cities around the country.
In late 2016, Race2Rebuild moved its headquarters to Washington D.C. as the official endurance based sports program of Rebuilding Together. While its mission holds at its core to bring families home through racing, we have broadened the focus to include distressed communities impacted by the difficulties facing low-income homeowners nationwide.
Race2Rebuild’s finish line has and always will remain the same: a safe and healthy home for every person.
