On Thursday February 6, Rebuilding Together Broward is Celebrating Women In Construction at a Cocktail Reception at the Broward Center. I am humbled to be one of the honorees, along with Traci Miller and Beth Azor, at this inaugural event called Black Dresses & Blueprints and hope you can participate with me!
Rebuilding Together Broward's mission is to repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives for the less fortunate who may include lower income, elderly, disabled and veterans.
Our goal for this event is to raise $60,000 to complete the rebuilding of Cindy Bizier’s home. On March 13, 2009, Cindy’s 3-year-old grandson Aidan died in a house fire ignited while Cindy was at work and her daughter Autumn, who struggled with drugs, was asleep. Firefighters found the boy on the garage floor near the door, his teddy bear under his left arm.
Cindy owns her home outright, so she didn’t carry insurance. She used her retirement savings to replace the roof and most of the windows in her home, but the interior is still an empty shell. Cindy has been renting an apartment while her home sits dormant.
There is so much more to Cindy’s story, but what we need you to know now is that we want to restore hope for her by restoring her home.
